Things to Do in Dublin for Couples

A quiet Victorian garden, a sunset walk along Dublin Bay, and a traditional music session — Dublin doesn't need to be loud to be good for two.

Rather than a generic "romantic Dublin" list, here are a handful of things that are genuinely good to do as a pair — mostly because they're quiet enough to actually talk.

Iveagh Gardens

A Victorian garden behind the National Concert Hall that most visitors walk straight past — a rustic grotto, a maze and a sunken lawn, and usually far quieter than St Stephen's Green. Free, and a good spot to sit for a while.

A sunset walk at Sandymount or Killiney

Sandymount Strand is the closest beach to the city centre, reachable by DART or a short walk from Ballsbridge, with a long tidal flat that makes for an easy evening walk. Killiney Beach, further out on the DART line, looks out toward the Wicklow Mountains and is a short walk downhill from Killiney station.

The Chimney Viewing Tower

A converted distillery chimney at Smithfield with an enclosed glass observation platform around 60 metres up — a good option for a view of the city that isn't the Guinness Storehouse's Gravity Bar. See smithfield.ie for current access.

A traditional music session

The Brazen Head, Dublin's oldest pub, runs live traditional Irish music most nights — a low-key evening that doesn't require booking a restaurant. See our Food & Drink guide for more.

Grand Canal Dock

Dublin's redeveloped docklands, with waterside seating along the canal basin — a quieter, less touristy stretch of the city to walk in the evening.
